Tara Anderson - Designer & Artist
Hi, I’m Tara! I'm an independent artist living in Orlando - with pink hair sometimes. I LOVE to play dress up, I'm addicted to glitter, and my aesthetic is "organized chaos." I'm a Butterfly Mom and a proud feminist. I'm a "Paper Engineer" and pride myself on being able to make pretty much anything out of paper! I believe myself to be generous, caring, intuitive, empathetic, and curious. I have strong values and am incredibly passionate about the things I care about (racial justice is one of those things). I'm a perfectionist, to a fault. A hard-core over thinker. A privileged white girl. A Checklist Queen. I believe that the world would be a better place if everyone understood the concept of privilege and used theirs to create solutions that end the injustice of privilege altogether. Creating beautiful and well-designed products that support ideas I'm passionate about or just helping to open people's minds to the truth about privilege, inequality, injustice, oppression, discrimination, etc., is my ultimate goal.
How do you define Feminism?
Feminism is the idea that we are all equal and deserve an equitable society. Intersectional Feminism (because it should be intersectional!) works toward achieving equity by acknowledging how different forms of discrimination intersect and making changes that try to make sure ALL women have the opportunity to realize their fullest potential in life.
How would you improve the world in one small way?
I believe that the world would be a better place if everyone understood the concept of privilege and used theirs to create solutions that end the injustice of privilege altogether. If I could improve the world in one small way, it would be to use my influence with the people in my life to help them understand their own privilege.
Where in Central Florida do you go to think/relax/enjoy?
My back yard. I love to garden or sit among my plants when I need to relax and think. Nature has always been a respite for me!
Where do you get your best ideas?
Most ideas come to me after a long process of research and personal reflection but if you mean where physically, usually it's in the shower :)
What do you wake up for each morning?
I wake up each morning to let my dog Zagg out :D Also an urgent feeling of needing to contribute to the world in some meaningful way has always been a huge motivator for me.
